'Explained' is not a book or a full-length documentary. It's meant to provoke your interest in the subjects it covers, to give you a summary explanation of them, and to prompt you to become more engaged with your world and go out and learn more about it, not to magically give you years' worth of knowledge through televised osmosis. If you actually think that can be accomplished in 20 minutes. 'Explained' offers a brief perspective based on the statistics and facts available.

The majority of my facts and statistics came from a book written by Shashi Tharoor called ‘India The Future Is Now’. As an elected member of parliament Shashi is the minister of state for Human Resource Development, Government of India. He was named ‘The Global Leader of Tomorrow’ by world’s Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland. He is a bestselling author and has won numerous literacy awards. The information and statistics I have used from this book directly relates to my work providing it with a heavily researched set of information that is reliable and trustworthy giving my work substance and integrity.

When conducting my primary research, I sat down with Educational Industry professionals who worked for and with Shiv Nadar Education. I discussed a range of topics and information surrounding my concept such as; privatisation in schools causing unequal education, the duties/responsibilities of schools and the government and stopping the exploitation of poor people. I chose to use these individuals because they are widely experienced In Indian education and are incredibly knowledgeable in the challenges and strive towards a future, fully educated India. Being in their educational positions ensures the audiences trust and confidence when speaking on research, methods used and the findings that result from this
test shoot.
My main issue when trying to do test shoots is not being able to film in India, therefore I decided to focus a lot on the Interview shoot.
When research and looking through my Interview style and inspiration the Explained series stood out to me. Their use of a simplistic style, using an ordinary location such as the interviewees house, office, work place but shooting it beautifully is done very effectively creating an Interview that focuses on what the subject is saying rather than where they are.
I decided to use this approach for my documentary.
